Who doesn't love a good rum ball? Boy o boy these have to be one of my favourite Xmas treats by far. I used to buy them from the supermarket and mum and I would slowly but surely demolish every last morsel, oohing and ahhing over how much we loved them - no one else in the house did.
But when my interest in nutrition hit, I realised that most pre-packaged ones are full of crap. A little bit of choc, rum flavour, and a whole lotta preservatives, additives, sugar, fillers, and junk.
So I made my own. And continue to do every year.
What you need:
1/4 cup nut meal
1/2 cup medjool dates (pitted and chopped)
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 tsp mixed spice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp rum
1 Tbsp cacao powder
2 Tbsp other dry ingredient (coconut flour, oat flour, even additional nut meal all work)
1. In your food processor, throw in the dates, nut meal and raisins (leave out half the raisins to fold through at the end, if you want chunkier rum balls with chewy raisins throughout, or throw em all in)
2. Then add everything else until the mixture is well combined and smelling divine (not using rum? Use another liquid in it's place, even if it's just water)
3. Taste test - good luck not eating the whole lot right here!
4. Roll the mixture into small balls in the palm of your hand, and roll in cacao powder, cinnamon, chocolate sprinkles, coconut, or whatever you fancy.
This recipe has been included in a Christmas eBook that you can get your hands on for FREE over here. The rest of the recipes are unreal also, so head on over and grab yourself a copy before Xmas is over and they're gone!
They are just beautiful!! I will add this to our Christmas treat list. We make a combination of my raw goodies and some vegan gluten free treasures also for the children to have with my raw ones.
