REVIEW: SCHKINNY MANINNY JUICE CLEANSE

Recently whilst in Sydney I decided to do a juice cleanse and try one of the many options now spread across the massive city. Juicing seems to have taken off and gotten even bigger thanks to Joe the Juicer, his documentary, and juices now in Woolies. Companies are popping up left, right and centre offering cleanses ranging from 1 day to a week or more, all in the name of cleansing, detoxing, clearing, resetting goals and so on.

As a juice fan myself, I have to say the longest juice cleanse I have ever done is 4 days. I'm just not a fan of fasting as such. I love my food. And I much prefer eating it than drinking it. However, I am a fan of fresh juices and try to sneak some in each week for extra nutrition and the pleasure I get from drinking them.

So I decided to try a 3 day cleanse whilst staying at my dads place, because it was a few days we weren't moving around. And I got the Schkinny Maninny cleanse after hearing good feedback from friends who have used them before. They also do cleanses that include soup or a light meal so you don't have to do just juice. What I love about these guys are that they are organic and they juice fresh daily in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (a few brands now ship interstate which I wouldn't be so keen to drink - I mean why bother? Sustainability?).

They deliver at the crack of dawn so as soon as I was up and awake, my box was waiting at my door. Excitement much! One happy camper right here.

What I got Day 1:

  • 6 x 600ml fresh juices
  • 6 x Detox tea bags
  • Mini tub of seeds to munch on
  • Mini tub of psyllium husks
  • Detoxing Bath soak
  • Mini dry skin loofah
  • Welcome card

Initially I have to say that reading the ingredients in each juice, I was a little put off. I don't like rockmelon at all... I don't like watermelon juice with anything but mint... And I had kinda gone off beetroot of late. But when I cracked open the first bottle, they were off the hook. It was so darn good.

Schkinny Maninny juices are more like a juice/smoothie in one. There is still a fair amount of pulp in the juices which in general I'm not a fan of but I suppose when doing a juice cleanse the extra fibre for your bowels and satiety would be of great benefit. And like I mentioned earlier, on first glance, maybe not so cool, but these juices tasted so good it wasn't as issue.

Each day different juices came with a couple still the same (yay for Schkinny Pink Sherbert coming back), as well as the mini tub of seeds. What I also loved about these guys which I am yet to see elsewhere is the juice benefits listed on the label. Check these out ---->

The Schkinny Leap Frog (spinach, cucumber, apple, kiwifruit, parsley):
  • Is high in fibre to soothe intestines
  • Increases elimination of toxins via your intestines
  • Reduces fluid retention
  • Reduced blood pressure thanks to the potassium content
  • Increases energy levels

The Schkinny Vego Mego (beetroot, celery, lemon, spinach, ginger):
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Is high in calcium and iron
  • Supports healthy liver function
  • Potentially reduces high blood pressure
  • Rids the body of excess water retention
  • Promotes elimination of intestinal gas and bloating

And The Schkinny Pink Sherbert (watermelon, lemon, apple, cucumber) which was my favourite:
  • Is an excellent source of silica for hair, skin and nails
  • Helps cleanse the mouth
  • Is rich in potassium to control blood pressure
  • Helps regulate blood sugar levels
  • Neutralises acidity in the blood

How cool is that?

So, if ever you're in Sydney, or you already live there and want to try a great juice cleanse as there are so many to choose from these days, I would recommend these guys for taste, punctuality, price and ingredients used.

Thanks again to Schkinny Maninny for my 3 juice cleanse. I felt energised, alive, more awake, and definately as though my body had been given a whopper load of health giving nutrition those 3 days.
