WOMENS WELLNESS CONFERENCE PART 2: Sara Gottfried and 7 Steps to a Clearer Body + Focused Mind

Source

Sara Gottfried is a Harvard-trained MD with 20+ years of experience, and author of the New York Times bestselling book, The Hormone Cure, which I have been seeing doing the rounds on social media, bookshelves of girlfriends, and tossed around in conversation recently. I had the pleasure of hearing her speak at the Womens Wellness Conference and here are her 7 Steps to a Clearer Body and Focused Mind.

1. Put Food first

// Eat More Plants
// Upgrade the oils you're consuming - no more processed hydrogenated trans fats people!!
// Choose organic wherever you can
// Use glass not plastics
---> BPA disrupts oestrogen, androgen and thyroid function and women with the highest levels of BPA have been shown to have the lowest levels of fertility. A major contributor to BPA exposure right now is the good old receipt from the store!
// Use natural cosmetics - I'm reading and learning sooooooo much more about this and the whole 'natural' term is a load of BS. Buy Certified Organic only if you really want to know what your lathering in your skin to be absorbed within minutes, is actually safe
// Activated charcoal!! This was her favourite supplement; she keeps some in her handbag even! If you feel you've eaten a funny meal at a restaurant, had a glass too many wines, or your digestion is playing up, Sara uses charcoal.

2. Reboot your Gut

// Follow the 4R's Program with your natural health practitioner. This is a Removal, Replace, Reinoculate and Repair protocol for anyone experiencing gut and digestive symptoms. If you think this could be something that would benefit you, I'm here to help you my dear so shoot me an email for a consultation.
// Add in one more R - Rebalance - and address stress and lifestyle as well

3. Reset your Inner Clock

// Chronobiology is the term
// Or in layman's terms, SLEEP

4. Love your Mitochondria

// These are your powerhouses of energy
// So keep your B vitamins up
// Fix any dysbiosis (gut issues)
// Reduce oxidative stress
// Balance hormones - and this can totally be done naturally
// Decrease any inflammation - the next big thing we're seeing everywhere!! Depending on the type and severity of inflammation you may be experiencing, there are loads of things you can be doing and ingesting to help. But this is best treated individually
// Decrease toxins and toxic exposure
// Supplement (Sara's favourites for mitochondrial function include NAC, CoQ10, Magnesium, Omega 3, Alpha Lipoic Acid, and D-Ribose)

5. Sweat more

// Physical exercise stimulates new mitochondria - the little energy powerhouses
// Have detox baths - epsom salts, clays, essential oils, etc
// Regular Infra red saunas

6. Supplement wisely

// Ensure both Phase 1 and Phase 2 liver detoxification path ways are functioning optimally or detoxification will not take place properly, and toxin accumulation will result (not the sexy happy result we want). I wrote about these detox pathways a while back over here and simple ways to lighten your liver load daily as well
// For Phase 1, helpful supplements include Glutathione, Flavanoids and B vitamins
// For Phase 2, NAC (600mg 2x daily), B vitamins and Glycine
// For all, we want antioxidants including (but not limited too) vitamins C and E, minerals and phytonutrients

* NAC (aka N-Acetyl Cystine) decreases the alcohol burden on the liver, protects against environmental toxins and also decreases the mercury and lead levels (amongst many other things)

7. Grow Your Mindset

// Don't keep a fixed mindset on how the world works or how your body works
// Avoid the "yeah yeah I've got that"
